WordPress MU installation tutorial

WordPress is blogging software open source / free prominent. WordPress MU is a multiuser version of WordPress. WordPress MU is used to run the wordpress.com site, free blog service that is open to the public.

Note: distinguish between wordpress.com (free online service) and wordpress.org (open source software to create your own blog on your own computer or server hosting).

Installation

1. Take the tarball from http://mu.wordpress.org/

2. From the hosting control panel, Subdomain Manager, create a subdomain wildcards such _.blog.example.com. Later your users will use the URL USERNAME.blog.example.com, for example steven.blog.example.com, etc..

3. Create a blank database via the control panel hosting, MySQL Manager.

4. Extract the files from the tarball WordPress MU.

5. In the Subdomain Manager> Prefs, make sure the script execution mode is the USER, not the cgi-USER. This is so the installation went smoothly. After the installation is complete, you can restore the execution mode to the cgi-USER, for extra security.

6. Access index.php from your browser. Follow the installation instructions.
